Eheim 2080 to Fluval FX6...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm gonna second (or third) the Eheim notion. 2262 is my favorite canister I've ever used. TONS of media, great flow, energy efficient, and an absolute workhorse.

Guys...I've never even seen an Eheim 2262 for sale in the UK? Which is strange because it's an Eheim. Is it called something else here?

But still looking for an answer to that main question, is the 5.9L media capacity in the FX6...5.9L + Foam or excluding foam.

A couple of months ago, there was a thread with an Eheim filter issue. The OP wrote to Eheim inregards to where they are manufactured. Eheim replied that the new series are still made in Germany but the "classics" are now made in China. So, the "classics" today are probably not built with the same quality they were 20+ years ago.

To the Op, there are plenty of very satisfied FX owners, so if that's what you want, go for it.

5.9 is pretty slim for media capacity on something that size. The manufacturer says the baskets hold 1.5gallons of media which equates to 5.6 liters. So I'm assuming that 5.9 includes sponges. But i could be wrong.

My sunsun 304b holds over 1 liter in each of the 4 trays. My fluval 406 will almost hold a gallon of media. There's alot of wasted space in the fx it seems

ok so I had the 2075 and the fx6. the 2075 was smaller then the fx but one of the trays on the 2075 filled up 1.5 trays on the fx6. the fx6 does not hsve a lot of bio room; there is probably an equal amount of room for bio and sponges on the fx. the trays look split in half.

Thanks for that, much appreciated. That doesn't bode to well. My 2080 has 3 trays - 2x I have filled with bio, and the other mech. I'm assuming the 2075 trays are smaller? I was hoping that the FX6 would take all my bio, and I could just use the sponges in the FX6 for the mechanical side of things. I really wanted to just dump my media in instead of running two filter for a while etc.

I bought my 2080 used and it came with all media, so I'm not sure exactly how much is in there in terms of the Eheim Mech and Eheim Substrat Pro. It's more or less full.

I read a review of the FX5 and it said 6L of bio and 25l of sponges...

So I'm all a bit confused!

EDIT: OKAY! Each tray in the Eheim 2080 = 4L. Which means I currently have 8L bio, and 4L of mech + the prefilter sponges. So there's no way the FX6 would even accommodate my bio. So...if I did want to go for the FX6...what would be the recommendation? As I'd literally be losing 2L of cycled bio media!
