I have cleaned my canister media twice and replaced the filter pads but still the return flow is not anywhere near what it used to be when I first purchased it. It is 1 year old. Could it be the impeller. I have never taken it apart as I am afraid I will break something.

I cleaned the impeller reluctantly but all went well I think. The return flow is much better but still not as strong as when new. Maybe this is normal as it ages. When I first bought the filter I could see my plants waving in the bottom quite a bit from the pull of the intake , now I don't see any movement at all. I have a 72 gal. bow front with 8 golden angels , 2 lrg. bala sharks, 3 med. clown loaches . All plastic plants and gravel substrate.

quarterback13, did you also clean the hoses? I see that you did read my post on how I clean my 2217 filter & I'm glad it was helpful to you. Did you put the fine, white pad underneath the top lattice screen?

Also, do you have any other equipment (U.V. sterilizer, heater, etc) on either the intake or output hoses?

Is the filter quiet or is it making some noise?

In my set up I put the bottom lattice screen in first , then the ceramic media, then the blue pad, then the top lattice screen then the round balls media and then the white pad. I thought that was how it was explained in my directions. Am I wrong? I have a heater but it's not attached to the hoses in any way . I cleaned the hoses the other day along with all the media. I also do not have a nylon media bag as you described. It never mentioned doing that.Filter is very quiet as when new.

it should go from bottom to top

lattice
blue scrubby
polos ceramic rings
balls
white filter pad
lattice

that will do it

Okay. I will do that immediately. Thanks so much for all your help. I guess I will need get a media bag for the balls or they will just mix in with the ceramic rings. That was why I had the lattice inbetween there.

the problem you are having is no lattice on the top the white filter wool is slowing the pump down
