I went to switch the tanks I have my 2217 on and when I got it onto the other tank I turned it on and it wouldn't flow water. I've tried several different ways to prime it with no luck. Last thing I did was a drained all the water from the canister and hooked it back up opened the valve water started to run into the filter until it was full then reconnected the spray bar and turned it on and there was still no water coming out of it. I've checked for clogs everything seems fine I took it apart and cleaned the impeller and hoked it back up again, still no luck getting it to work. I then took the spray bar off and lowered the outlet hose to a bucket and water comes out. If I raise the bucket and hose up the water flow slows down and at the top of the tank the water flow stop. So my question is what could be the problem? I'm out of ideas.

Im not sure if I understand all that your saying but please bear with me here.

Is there any electricity used is it pushing any water? Is the impeller spinning ? Does it make any noise ?

If its primed properly and the tap valves are open. The electrical supply is working properly. Then I am stumped..

valves are opened primed properly. like I said before if I take the hose that returns the water to the tank and have it sitting in a bucket on the floor water comes out like it should but if I pick the hose up and get it towards to top of the tank the water flow stops.

It pushes out the normal amount at floor level ? There is something holding it back considerably if it cant push the water up to the top of the tank. How much head height are we talking here?

sorry wish I could be more of a help.

yeah normal water flow at floor level. it's a standard 75 gallon tank with a standard stand so about 46" from the floor to the top of the tank.
This is really odd. Hopefully someone can come along and help further. Sorry to hear about your troubles. An eheim 2217 should easily be able to pump it up 4 feet it sounds like a problem with the head. My eheim 2215 had to get taken off my show tank a couple weeks ago due to a leaky tap valve so I know where your coming from .

Sure sounds like an impeller problem...turns fine under "no load" but slows??stops?? as load increases.
If it was me, I would strip the whole head..deep cleaning of the head/impeller..make sure impeller is not loose on the shaft and housing/cavity has no debris. I mean "Q" tip, tooth pick kind of cleaning.
After sitting dry for any period of time, you could have a hunk of dried goo in there.
All I can think of. HTH

did you make sure to tighten the connecting hose onto the canister really well? i have a 2217 and sometimes it push out water
