I own 2 XP3s, but have never owned a 2217. My first experience with the XP3 was pretty negative. It was a major pain to get it going again after cleaning. All sorts of problems like noisy, impeller not turning, losing it's prime, clogged very fast and so on. But I noticed while cleaning it one day that the plastic inside the impeller housing (part the impeller spins within) was severely scarred, so I boxed it up and took it back.
The new one I replaced it with works beautifully, zero problems. I liked it so well, I bought another one. They are quiet, never lose their prime, and are a breeze to clean.
