I think you would get more efficiency and a better flow rate running the canisters individually instead of daisy chaining them.

I don't think the sub filters have motors or pumps on them and unfortunately the OP hasn't been on since Oct 2016.

I vaguely remember searching for Eheim sub filters when the OP started this topic.
