Eheim 2217

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not much to fail though impellers on the top where it belongs
Oh, Man....not you too?!?! LOL So, all the sump filters with the water pump laying on the bottom of the tank are set up wrong?

This akin to saying that cars with engines in the rear are designed wrong: Porsche, Lambo, Ferrari etc

I just read 5 reviews from Amazon about the Sunsun Canister filter, where the canister just cracked straight down the side for no apparent reason. Th Sunsun obviously is not the Eheim, but it just goes to show that plastic is plastic. It can crack.
I'm betting anything that the trays were not seated properly and the users forced the lid down to cause this scenario. I own a few of these as well and think they work fine, but I agree with MBJ that the plastic isn't as beefy as Eheim or Fluval.

The sump isnt a tiny closed system that can't purge air on its own. That's the main difference I see in that analogy

My Odyssea canisters, which has the pump on the bottom, never had any air purging issues. I can actually verify this because the CFS700 model has a clear canister housing

Lol xracer yeah me too....but i dont claim anyone brand is better than the other i do prefer eheim classica and ac110's

Op seems like your using amazon reviews over what your being told here which is cool but as someone else mentioned you have no idea what circumstances these filters cracked or leaked under.

Just get an ac110 and all of your worries are laid to rest

I hate the water outflow power on the 2217 on a 40G breeder tank. I like some floss on top for clear water. it just does push through anywhere near as well as I expected after using a 2262. I bought 2 2217's on sale, so even tried switching out the top with motor, to see if one unit was weaker than the other. Same results.
It does push water much better without top floss, but then water clarity is not what I want.
I have no complaint as to the manufacture reliability of 2217 though. All parts are fine.
However, I LOVE the flow power of 2262's !

I am using Amazon reviews for the 2217, because most reviews from other sources are for older German manufactured units. I couldn't think of a another good source for recent reviews.

Petspoiler if ya have a few bucks laying around try poret foam. I use it on all my filters even the ac's. I dont have to mess with the floss anymore this stuff works better. Im using 30ppi
