Howdy,

No tools needed with Eheims. Everything should only be finger-tight.

As said above, best case you ruined the o-ring. Worst case you stripped the thread or cracked it.

You'll have to ask all the Eheim lovers that think there the best filters out there and say they never break like Tk1armann. But if I would take a guess it most likely needs a new seal. You can sell it and buy two new fx5's fully loaded.

Guarantee you do a poll and the eheim voters will outnumber any other filter our there. They are the Mercedes of canisters . Fx 5 and fluvals s are like the fords.
Of course your gonna get some Rheims that leak... But not many at all... Plus it's ease of maintenance that tops other filters .

I own both fx 5 s and eheims. They go really well together. But the fx 5 is the biggest pain in the *** to Clean out. It's like they skimped out on design. But they are good value I suppose.

Anyways as Doyboy says: run a load of Vaseline on all the rubber rings just to be safe.. No tools for tightening..

EHEIM > Any other canister! Though the FX5 is a great value. Got the cash? Get an EHIEM!
