Eheim 2262 Help

I just got a 2262 today and I don't like the intake barb at the bottom of the canister.

Is Eheim part number 7675950 the correct part to use an elbow in place of the straight barb? If so the elbow doesn't look long enough to clear the canister so that the barb part is 90°? I'm looking for a sweeping elbow like the 2217 has.

No that part number 7675950 is ONLY for the pump to connect to the canister lid.

I have never seen a stock Eheim elbow connector that can be used to replace the threaded inlet connector for the suction hose on the bottom of the filter housing.

What you might want to try is to use a short piece of hose and some PVC barb or similar fittings if you want to make an elbow fitting but I don't know why you would want to.

What is the reason you want an elbow fitting similar to the smaller Classic series filters?

I wanted to add that in case you didn't already know it, that fitting can be removed from the bottom of the canister since it is just a threaded bulkhead type fitting BUT you would need to find a similar type fitting that would have an o-ring that would seal to the canister body AND a nut to tighten up the fitting. Maybe look at the Carlon brand liquid tite all plastic elbows that would equate to the Eheim size.

Honestly I think it would be a real pain to try and retrofit with standard plumbing or electrical parts especially since the Eheim fittings are not English and the threaded ends are BSPP so they won't 'mate' with pipe thread or straight thread found in the US.

Those hose barbs on the stock intake will fit a 1” ID hose with a hose clamp. After that you can get to any combo you want. That’s how I run mine. If you use braided hose it will match that curve easily.

I got all of the hoses fitted last night. I don't need a 90 elbow after all. I cut about a foot long piece from the bottom barb to the first half of the double tap and it's a perfect sweeping elbow.

I have the media below;

2262 TOP
4L Pond Matrix (won't use it all)
5L Substrat Pro
3/4" piece of Synfil
2" 20ppi Poret foam
2" 10ppi Poret foam
5L Eheim Ehfimech


I didn't know that the 2262 came with a media bag so I also ordered two Seachem large zip bags (19" x 17"). Any reason to use or not to use those vs the included Eheim bag? Wouldn't the larger holes be better for the bio media? The advantage of the Eheim bag is if any material breaks off of the bio media it would contain it.

Does anyone use anything on top of the bio media to protect the pump from broken pieces? When I ran a 2217 I would see little pieces of broken substrat pro from time to time and just rinsing the pond matrix I found little slivers and chips in the bottom of the container.

fmueller put a little piece of foam in the V on the underside of the lid. Would that work or should I just put a round thin layer (3/4") of 10ppi foam on top the bio media?

Initially I used the included Eheim media bag and it works great though the plastic slide clip to secure it didn't really hold all that well. I've since switched to mesh lingerie laundry bags with a zipper.

Just pre rinse your bio-media to remove any fine debris and use whichever bag you want.

I did find that after 8+ years I've notice some of the Eheim EhfiSubstrat Pro did get smaller in diameter but I've never had one get by and into the pump.

You can also add a thin layer of Poly-fil polyester batting or a thin layer of Poret foam just under the top lattice screen to catch small pieces of media.

On my last two tanks I has FX5s so cleaning mechanical media was just a simple rinse of the side sponges.

With the 2262 taking 5l of Ehfimech should I put it in media bags? Probabaly 2-3x year I'd like to remove it and give it a thourough cleaning with tank water.

I do not put the Ehfimech in media bags because it was not recommended by the mfg. My understanding is that the water flow through Ehfimech is meant to be somewhat turbulent and it does trap some larger debris such as plant material if you have plants. I have also found small fry that have grown up in the filter and I just remove them back to the tank.

My process for cleaning Ehfimech is to manually remove it from the filter using a scoop and put it in a large kitchen colander and rinse thoroughly under running untreated well tap water. Repeat until it's free of debris storing the cleaned media in a 5G bucket. I don't dump out the media from the canister because you may damage the bottom lattice screen in the process.

I don't find my method any longer than cleaning a bag of bio-media and it's the way I've done it since owning these filters.

Gotcha. I'll just leave the mech loose then.

I have all of the media rinsed and in the housing. With 5L of the Eheim mech, 2" 10ppi, 2" 20ppi, and 5L of eheim substrat pro in the Eheim bag the top screen leg is to the mark around the container.

I have another 5L bucket of the substrat pro and I have pond matrix I wanted to use. I don't think I'm going to use the pond matrix since the pieces are too large for the screen to sit level....so will I be ok adding another 1-2L of the substrat pro or is that line to show where the lids inner lip will hit?

You may be a bit full of media IF you have to press the lid on and push down on it in order to clamp it consider removing a bit of media or slightly rearranging the media so you don't have to force the lid on.

Try to avoid pressing down on the media to compress it as you may either break the bottom or top lattice screens in the process.

I don't remember how far up the top lattice screen legs hit in relation to the canister lid when installed.
