This will be going on a 230 gallon tank that will be heavily stocked.

 Then I do not see how you can still be undecided.

Here's some reading: THIS and THAT

Thanks for all the posts guys. I'm only undecided because I can buy a pro3 and fx5 for just a little more money than just a 2262. I probably will end up going with the 2262.

2 x filters are always better than 1

but if the fx5 is your 2nd filter forget it save the extra cash and get 2 x 2080s :D

gotta love eheim all the way.. I've got a 2080 on my 125 and a Korallia 4 for additional flow. I've never had a problem with cleaning or maintaining that filter the whole two times I've had to clean it out in the last year ;) they're awesome

haha yea, only reason I was gonna get an fx-5 as a second filter is they do mechanical filtration better than the eheim? The non bypass design probably isnt too good for mech. filtration though... a XP3 might be better for that.

if its more mech filtration you want then their is a cheap option with the 2080 that you can double the size of the filter media in the 2080 i have this on both my 2080s with good results

all you do is buy a cheap pond bucket that comes with bio balls and sponges

you have 2 x intake pips on the 2080 you take 1 intake pipe direct to the 2080 like normal

the 2nd intake pipe you take to the pond bucket then out of the pond bucket to the 2080

the pond bucket acts as a big bypass with as much media if not more than the FX5 :D

Sweet, thanks for the tip. I'll be ordering whatever I decice on next week.

Hi T1kamann

When you say take the 2nd intake pipe to the pond bucket and then out of the pond bucket and into the 2080, does the pond bucket have to be raised higer than the 2080? so that the water flows down to the 2080?

or is there a pump in your pond bucket to pushing water out from the pond bucket and back into the 2080?

what kind of pond bucket are you using, just want to get an idea as I want to set mine up like this but never could figured out if it would work

Thanks

I'd hesitate to modify any Eheim. Plus, I don't agree that they are inferior in mechanical filtration.

its not a mod you are just adding a MASSIVE pre filter to the pro3 but by taking 1 intake pipe direct to the 2080 its still get enought bacteria to keep it alive

their is no pump in the pond bucket

the head of the pond bucket i use is high than the 2080 so the water free flows to the 2080 LIKE NORMAL

this is the pond buckets i use blagoon 5000 not with UV as pond UV work diffrent to tank UV not many shops stock this without UV you my need then to order it
its MUCH cheaper without UV
