I have the 2250 which is a downsized version and I will tell you this...you have to put your hand on it to know if if its running or not. These canisters hold a ton of media and are super quiet and efficient. Definitely a pro grade filter.

If the 2078 is the same as the 2075 but electronic, then heck yeah it is.

Its a good deal for the filter but unless you want to vary flow rate during the time of the day(like planted aquariums), I would skip the "electronic" filters all together.
For $90 you can get a sunsun 4 stage canister with UV or for $250 you can get a FX5(see F1, sometimes I do recommend your filter to people
) or stick with eheim classics...pending what size tank you are going to use it on...

I saw the deal and wonder what people think about it. I'm not looking to buy another filter any time soon...

Software is not the potential issue on those circuit boards and you know that. A small violation in ESD process in the lab or such should be the concern. Hw people always try to point fingers at the software... lol
