I have the 2250 which is a downsized version and I will tell you this...you have to put your hand on it to know if if its running or not. These canisters hold a ton of media and are super quiet and efficient. Definitely a pro grade filter.
Its a good deal for the filter but unless you want to vary flow rate during the time of the day(like planted aquariums), I would skip the "electronic" filters all together.
For $90 you can get a sunsun 4 stage canister with UV or for $250 you can get a FX5(see F1, sometimes I do recommend your filter to people) or stick with eheim classics...pending what size tank you are going to use it on...

It is good that the water continue to flow in that case, otherwise it might become an extinction event.
