Actully I can think of a dozen or more other filters that have remained unchanged as long or longer just off of the top of my head...not that it really maters.

You can? I cant. The major canister players in the UK are Eheim, Fluval, Rena, Cascade, Hydor.

Cascade are very new and only been around for a couple of years, Rena do seem to still be using the XP series they've always used for around 7 to 8 years, Fluval have upgraded now to the 05 series from the 03 and 04 series, Hydor(used to be called someone else) still use the same basic design but with upgraded features.

Running five classics here. All dead silent and none of them have ever had a single malfunction. The oldest one has been running non-stop since 1989. Gotta replace the hoses about every 5 years. Highly recommend.

I was refuring to more than just canisters but.... the marineland magnum 220 350 and HOT magnums have been around just as long and are still in production. So have the system one and vortex DE filters. The Ocean clear line of professional pressure canisters are even OLDER than the Eheim classics. The rainbow lifeguard canister line dates from about the same period. A LOT of HOB units are still in production that are WAY over 15 years old...some as much as 25. AC'S....Wispers...Penguin's.

Personally I prefur equipment thats been constantly updated and improved...
the venerable oud VW bug was a hell of a car in it's day but how many of you would still be driving one if it had remained in production and unchanged from 1965.

I know what your trying to say but the venerable old vw bug will still get you from a to b the same as a £100K Merc will, but Sometimes theres no need to add bells and whistles to something that works perfectly from the start.

eheim 10 out of 10!!!!!!!!! got an 2217 and its quiet as, also running a couple of otto 1200L canister and they are making all the noise....... have to constantly check if eheim is even running.... love it when its simple....

The Vortex DE filter is ancient, I have one and I can't believe they never decided to redesign it to make it more user friendly. It's noisy and runs hot, not efficient at all. No comparison.

That wasn't a comparison. it was posted in responce to a question...It runs hot because its a pressure filter and it was never designed to run all the time. I was simply pointing out that the Eheim classics are not the only filter thats been around for 20 years...

Eheim classic filters are dead silent, even the biggest of the series with it's 905gph, I can't hear it even when I'm next to it.

i'll be picking one up soon.
