Eheim customer support email

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ive had one fail in months. Not trying to say its better or worse than other heaters but from what ive experienced they have the shortest lifespan over other heaters i have used. Im sure that whatever i repalce them with wont last too long either...things are made to breakdown sooner

With the drive to increase profit and be price competitive, lower end materials are used today, so defectiveness and life span of a product becomes a game of chance. Just like pretty much every mass produced products today. Today, manufactures wants the consumer to replace their products every 5 years or so, not every 2-3 decades

Sadly this is the exact reason.

Eheim cs got back to me this week with a questionare they wanted me to fill out. Im hoping they will replace the heater still gonna try a different brand and use this as a back up

not really. Planned obsolescence is used everywhere, all buildings, bridges, and roads have expected fail dates

So, you don't believe this is by design; to purposely make products cheaper, so they have shorter life span?

The same concept applies for everything though, your house has an expected life. I do agree it's partially to make you buy another but other factors like safety and liability are also involved. If the make something last forever then they must provide a lifetime warranty

Lifetime warranty on manufactured products are not mandated by any governing bodies that I know of.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree here. You apparently have a ton more faith in manufacturers than I do.

I'm with xraycer on this. What do houses, roads, and bridges have to do with a $50 aquarium heater?

Consumer goods today are made cheaply, but not because of safety & liability issues.
