Hey guys so I guess from reading everything I've figured out that an Eheim canister filter would be best for me, however now I'm having trouble figuring out which one. I'm trying to keep it below $100, and it will be for a 30 gal tank. Some people say get the 2213 while others say get the 2215 or 2217 and this is my first canister filter so I'm clueless as to what is the best one. Assume the tank has a heavy bioload if that makes it easier, cause I'm looking for a good cleaning :D, aka a canister filter that is probably for a lot larger tank. Does anyone have an Eheim eco 2234? Or I guess just what is the difference between the regular ones and the ecos?

I think I just need some advice from learned Eheim users. And if you think Eheim is not the best...what is?

Of the commonly available canisters, Eheim's are the best. For you tank, I'd run the 2215, or the 2217. Depending on if you intend to upgrade the tank. Bigger if you do, smaller if you don't. The Eco's are decent, but the classics are better.

:iagree:

It sounds like the classics are harder to service, I would get an easier one, like an ecco or maybe a marineland c series.

if you want an easy to service go rena, for pure get-er-done go eheim classic

Ecco's aren't easier to maintenance. For a classic, a back flush will clean it out quite well, and take half the time. C360 have been having some issues, and are based around the design of the Eheim pro 2 series.

Eheim pro 2s, Pro 3, classics, and even fluvals are easier IMO to service than the Renas, as the rena plastic is a little more fragile.

if you get some nylon bags to put the eheim medias in, then the classic won't take you longer than 10 min to service. and for the most part you'll only be servicing it every few months or so anyway so service time is none issue for me. i have the pro2 as well and i think it takes me longer to clean it than the 2217.

eheim classic for the win eccos are decent but you cann get a superior classic for around the same money and dont worry about service too much as these bad boys dont need much if properly cared for
