Woot! I got my Eheim 2217 today for my 55gallon, and it has ONE fish in it...my lovely flowerhorn who is recovering from some internal problems!

Now I wanted to ask you guys how to introduce the filter? I currently have to hang on filters, so i assumed...i turn my eheim on, as well as keep the two old filters running, to build up good bacteria in my Eheim?

I will keep them on for like 1 week, then take the old ones of?

Another question, do big fish like Flowerhorns like current? Eheim 2217 does 1000 Liters per hour! :D

Keep the old filters on for a while. Like a month. You could even keep them permanently, nothing wrong with a few backup filters.

The eheim's flow actually isn't very strong and it has a spray bar, you'll be fine. When you install it you want to put the flow reducer valves on the lines so you can adjust it if you really want to (I wouldn't).

My main man cockwork! long time bro! and yeah i cant wait to go home and set this beast up...! I had poor filtration for my flowerhorn :/ I did not really know, fish like flowerhorn need more filtration than other fish :/

I want to turn the other ones of cause of the electricity bill bro, its gonna cost a lot to have so many on.... so i might take the small filter of (which is designed for 90 litre aquariums), and keep my Eheim and the other one on! :D !!

btw do i need air stones? cause im sure my filtration is enough, and like you said...spray bar will cause movement in the water, hence oxygen.

use the filter media out of the hob inside the eheim if your going to remove them. and yes you need an airstone. the more oxygen the better for a hospital tank. if your wanting to use the spray bar for oxygen also aim it towards the top of the water( if under the water level.) i use fluvals but i want an eheim so keep us posted on how it does :)

Sure will, going to go home and set it uP! im so excited!! I hear this is the cadillac of filtration :D and clear water haha... oh and i wont use the HOB media inside the eheim, ill use the HOBs for a month with the eheim to build up beneficial bacteria in the eheim :D ! then take at least ONE Hang on filter of!

I would use a sponge filter hooked up to an airline myself... You get the benefits of an airstone plus you have an additional back up filter. Why not right?

As far as eheim, I run a 2217 on my 90 gallon and I can break it down for you from an unbiased perspective.

Pros:
Reliable
Silent
Great biological filtration
Pretty easy to clean
Low energy consumption (but more than a comparable aquaclear HOB)
Comes with media

Cons:
Weaker flow compared to similar sized canisters
So-so mechanical filtration
Can be a little difficult to get primed at first

How good does it clear the little particles in the water, that cause cloudyness? :D that would fall under biological i believe?

Oh and to answer what hang ons i haver...its just basic aqua ones... one came with my 20 gallon tank... but i have a better one there now, so i moved this to my 55gallon, and ihve another hang on for my 55gallon thats for 36 gallons of water...

As you all can see my filtration is not so good for my flowerhorn... so i stepped up a bit... :)

All three filters probably don't take up half the electricity of your heater or lights.
