Eheim jager troubles.

I have the same problem with my 300w heater, but a different brand. Running it on my 240g 24/7.

So does the heater ever turn off or is on all the time?

On non stop, no matter what I set the thermostat at or the water temp, it won't shut off.... But the timer shuts it off every hour and let's it run an hour so its ok for tonight, glad I take IR temps a couple times a day or I wouldnt have even noticed, I would have woken up to fried fish.....

Maybe 300watts aren't exactly reliable, I may try 2 200watt heaters instead to increase longevity...

It has contact tips inside that weld together, that's how it stays on. Common with normal heaters. ;)

So basically it overheated and soldered itself together? I'll try 2 heaters so they won't run continually and after the holidays buy a controller. Thx for ur help man

Wish there was a way to disassemble it

I have had 5 of these same heaters for over a year now and they have been the best I have ever had so far. Sounds like you just got a dud. I always try for at least 3w and preferably 5w per gallon in anything under 500 gallons to make it easier on the heaters though. Fluvals suck. 3 300W fluvals wouldnt heat a 100 gallon tank over 83.5 during an ick outbreak from a shipment of new fish but 1 300w jäger would heat it to 88.5 no problem. I didn't even have to turn it all the way up!

It was a 300watt for 125 gals, 3 months old, luckily I caught it before I went to bed or my fish would have been boiled! I can't trust them anymore, I've never had any sort of heater troubles till the jager! The 2x fluval 300watt are plenty of power! The ambient temp in my room is 65.5 degrees as well, gets down to 62 at night so I'm happy.

This temp controller is cheap but anyone know if it'll be fine? any experiences? Thx http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=23735

I had great luck sending Eheim customer service an email about a heater I had that quit heating. It wasn't quite a year old and all they wanted was a copy of the receipt and they sent me a new one. Only took a couple days. I hooked the new one up on a ranco controller though. Pretty fail safe now.
