In The Jungle
I have a 150gallon 6ftx2ftx2ft
With a orbigny ray, achara cat, endli endli, ornate and weeksi and royal pleco.

For a while I've been running 2 eheim 2215 and 2 2217. Needless to say my light bill is a bit crazy running ac all day to keep room cool.

Came across a 3rd 2217. So I'm now running 3 2217 and a 2215 eheim.

Up for sale is a eheim 2260. I would like to run less filters and my initial idea was to remove the two 2215s and run 3 2217s. HOWEVER with the available 2260 I don't know if I should get it and if so what/how many 2217s to run with it. Any advice helps

Howdy,

I run a 2217 on my 40 gal ... cannot imagine the handful of filters you have supporting your stock or what all the intakes & outlets look like around your tank :WHOA:. On my 6ft tank, I run 2x 2262. A single 2260 will be fine for you wrt bio media.

Good luck,
HarleyK

Agreed. I have two Eheim 2260's and a 3,500 GPH sump on my 6x3 ray tank. No matter what you do, grab that 2260, you could use it for sure.

I have a 2262 and an fx5 on my 6x2x2 and it they do a great job. The 2262 had a larger media capacity and in my opinion is the better filter. I would use it always in conjunction with another large filter, grab it any way and can 3 of your filters. Down the road grab a fx5 and your golden.

I had two eheims on each side (2215 & 2217 at each end) with circulation from powerheads. All the hoses run along and against the sides so the front and rear faces are unobstructed. I still want to cutdown on the number of units to even reduce the visual hoses some more.

So your saying that I should just run one 2260 (not 2262 to be clear) with only eheim mech stuff or the usual whole assortment of inserts? And my tank is also 6ft and I know the 2262 ur running is rated for 500ish compared to the 2260 which does 369ish.

Ur sump is nuts my friend. My tanks footprint is 6x2ft and I'm only running eheims. Only one ray tho so that probably makes sense. And I called the guy tonight. For what he's asking for the 2260 it IS best to have it handy. Looked good and the 2217 I got from him is running great. Doing 3 2217s now. Till I figure out the best combination with a 2260 in the mix tomorrow. Any idea?

Based on the stats, one 2260 is equal to three 2217, less a little flow.

My math gives me=
1 2217 rated for 159gallons /265gph
2217 X3= 480gallons /768gph
But what I find online for the 2260 is rated for 396gallons /900gph

I know the amount of media put into the canister plays with these numbers a bit but I'm not sure if I should be more focused on gallons rated or gph at this point. So ur saying "flow" is gallons rated and not gph? That's where I'm unclear as to which is more beneficial for the ray and big cat. Please enlighten me
