EHEIM jugglin'

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a 2262 and an fx5 on my 6x2x2 and it they do a great job. The 2262 had a larger media capacity and in my opinion is the better filter. I would use it always in conjunction with another large filter, grab it any way and can 3 of your filters. Down the road grab a fx5 and your golden.

Not too crazy about the fx5 from what I've seen, two friends of mine run them on a 110 and 180 but I'm not crazy about the unit for several reasons. However, my ultimate goal is to run Eheims with a combination of less units (hopefully at a lower electricity cost) and max efficiency for the proper needs of my fish which has become the remaining few of many as they grew and needed more elbow room. I will pick up the 2260 tomorrow but now the question is how many of the 2217s I should run with it if any to meet or exceed my current filtration while reducing the number of hoses/units/light bill

Hmmm did some googlin' and noticed that a 2260 and 2262 come with a 1260/2 pump. This filter has a 1250 pump....

I think this is a 2250? So hard to tell the diff btw 2260/50/62 from google images. I've seen different info different places as far as model #s. shown below next to a 2215

Did this guy change the pump? Or is this just a 2250 sold to me as what he thought was a 2260?
Paid 150$ have I been had?(tho I know 2217s retail around this price) lol
ANYONE care to shed light on this big eheim model # confusion? Searching 2250/60/62 gives inconsistent results. If this is a 2250 then i might just be better off running my 3 2217....? or should I run the "2250" with one 2217 as i planned with specs of 2260?:irked:

A while ago we had done a camparo of ehiem filters.
Interestingly betwen 2215 & 2217 ( or 2213 & 2215 , a bit foggy) the only difference is 3 finned & 6 finned impllelor , and both are inter changable. ( giving higher flowrate when used in lower model, media canister volume being same ).
Though none of them ever give the box printed flowrates ( that's an entirely new (old ) debate).

I strongly feel some such modularity in design might be the case in models you are considering.

Pl google further.
Also if more fellow mfk members can chip in about this it would be great !

Cheers !

Googled 2250 now that I think thats what this guy sold me (used). And looks like I got a 2250. The height on the 2260 would have probably been an issue as my stand is fairly low tho...
BUT now I to rearrange the 2250/2217 configuration.... Currently on 3 2217s thinking one 2217 and one 2250 as I planned when I thought this was a 2260...? seems like not enough flow.... 2217 does 156gph and 2250 I'm getting different number on..

Wow dude that's a lot of filters .
Why not make a non clogging horizontal flow filter yourself (similar to ERIC pond filter ).
I bet the smallest of eric would suffice.

I would preferto stick with eheims..... any suggestion as to how many 2217 to run with the 2250 (planned for a 2260 but got sold the wrong thing).150gal about 25% not full, big endli, ornate, 24" marbled pim, orbigny ray and a royla pleco that makes my water look like sawdust :(

Yeah mate, I just checked mine and the pump says 2260. These pumps are universal so you can easily remove and upgrade to a larger eheim pump. The 2260 and the 2262 pump should fit right on and give you extra flow. Checkout eBay, you might get lucky.
I would run the 2250 and one 2217 for now. If you upgrade your pump or buy another 2250 or 2260 down the track (since you don't like fx5) then switch the 2217 out.
