Eheim Pro 3 Filter, broken part

there is a bushing in the motor body, down in the hole,
you'll need to pull the shaft carefully out of the impeller cover.
In the cover you'll see another bushing like the one down in the bottom of the hole.

Now, to assemble it:
make sure the bushing in the hole is pushed all the way to the bottom
next
slide the Impeller w/ magnet onto the ceramic shaft and put it in the hole and push the shaft all the way in.

Then put the impeller cover on the shaft and push it into the hole...

The broken part you have is the retainer ring...

When you get a replacement you'll just put it on the impeller cover and turn it to the right about 1/3 of a turn, locking the impeller, bushings, cover and shaft in place... all done servicing the impeller...make sure there is ZERO crap in there cause and sand and grit will wear those parts out...

BTW that shaft and impeller without the cover and retaining ring is about 80 bux, so treat it like a woman...;):D

OK I think I described it wrong, in the hole under the magnet part of the impeller is the top bushing. I found it when I pulled out the impeller. The shaft is still connected to the bushing inside the impeller cover. So Should I try to take all of these pieces apart and put it together the way you said, or do you think I could just push the shaft into the impeller and the bushing? Does that make sense?

I take mine all apart to clean it...the end bushings in the motor and the cover are the same just be sure everything lines up before you push it all together, I can emphasize how important it is to be gentle with that shaft, it is a brittle as glass...but yeah you can leave it all together just make sure the o-ring on the impeller cover is wet with either o-ring silicone lube or at least water...and be sure it goes all the way in so the retainer ring can screw everything down tight...1/3 of a turn...;)

Can you believe how pricey the Impeller assembly is? 80-90 bux depending on who has one at the time.

I have the 2180 same as your 2080, but mine has the 500watt built-in heater. I run the bottom tray FULL of efimech and the next 2 trays full of efistratPRO 2 white pads then a blue Pad on top
 
well I dont mind spending the money to fix it when I will probably have this filter for longer than my fish is around. I have ia new tub of seachem matrix, its pricey stuff, but I have been reading great things about it, so Im excited to try it out. But I have prefilters on and I clean them pretty often so I dont have to take it apart as often. What do u use to lube the seals and impeller?

Never ever ever run that impeller (pump motor) with out a good supply of water...I use water when I put the shaft to bearings too...
As far as any and all rubber O-rings and their mating surfaces I use this...

Fish safe and it keeps the rubber o-rings supple and ready to seal off...
 
Eheim also suggests, on their website, using regular Vaseline if you run out of Eheim lube.

Where on the Eheim website did you read that? Please show me the link...
The use of a petrolem product on rubber usually causes the rubber to break down and I'm not sure Vasiline petrolem jelly is safe for fish...
