Did you physically inspect the impeller?
From what your describing it sounds like the impeller is not turning. The magnet may be spinning but the impeller is loose on the shaft.

How much water did you have to pour down the return? Did you leave the cap on the spay bar while doing this?

I can see there is air in both return tubes now. Just not sure how to get it out.

I am not sure about the spray bar, I believe I capped that but took the plug off the end of the spray bar until it was operating.

What I do remember was needing to squeeze one return tube while pressing the primer button and watching air come out the strainer then squeeze the other return and repeat. Once the siphon started and water started to rise in the supply tube i turned it on.

I only had this problem the first time I set it up. After maintenance now I fill the can right to the top then put the lid on and fill the return tubes till they overflow. I still push the primer button while pinching off the tubes before turning it on. HTH.

Sounds like impellor is not operating properly. There's no other blockages anywhere..
Just return it to eheim...warranty.
