Eheim Pro III thermofilter 2180

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I got one from Kens.Got the media from him too.I unfortunately do not have it running yet,but that is where I got mine.I looked at several different places and Kens was the cheapest for a new one.

Thanks guys,
The pre-filter being on the top of the stack has got to make cleaning easier. And if it is easier, it will get done when it's supposed to.
I built my stand 34" tall so it was easier to view, when seated in front of the tank. It made the top of the tank 58" but I have got nearly 3 feet under the tank for clearance...;)

So what is your opinion of this unit the 2080, What do you have in it as far as media, and would you buy another one?

i have 2 2080's i love them. i have substrate pro in the top 2 and efimech on the bottom. i use both white and blue pads. never a problem but u need to replace the white pad about once a month.very quiet and good flow.

Do you remember where you got them?

i got them from dr fosters. last year.

i couldnt find any good deals on ebay at the time.

i have them on my 125g. i have 2 fx5's on my 300g. its a toss up on which ones i like better. both easy to work on. eheims definately quieter and hold a little more media but less flow for sure.

fluval cheaper for sure.

I have two 2180's ,,great filters with minimal maintenance. I clean mine about once every 8 months, could probably go once a year. I got mine from Drs foster and smith online.

Ahhh 2180's...
What do you think of the internal 500 watt heater, is it of standard Eheim quality? how does it set-up and where is the control it?
If something should go wrong with it (the heater) it there a way tol run the canister separate from the heater?

the heater looks pretty rugged, it is like a metal coil under the lid. It has a digital control to adjust on the top. I am sure if it went out you could still run it fine. the display constantly shows your water temp and you can adjust it to the 1/10 of a degree if you like. I filled mine with the eheim substrate package that is sold separately, I think that is what is recommended. the pads are very hard to clog, that is why I can go several months between changes. I have 12 adult frontosa in my 180 and 5 in my 125g and it is the only filter I have on each tank.

I have four 2180 filter and you cant go wrong with these thermal filters. If you dont want to use the heater, you can just shut it off. I have had two filters on my 225 gallon tank and had only one heater turned on. As of now I have two extra filters but I am going to keep them for future projects. Picture in kensfish may be 2080 but the cost is for 2180. I am local to MASS so I pick up my stuff from kensfish. No vendor can beat Kensfish on the price. You will have to spend extra for 2180 when compared to 2080 but it has its advantage. Only disadvantage with 2180 is that it cannot be used for salt water unless you remove the heating element. I decided to go with eheim after doing a lot or research online.
