i will be setting up my 125 soon and i already have 2 penguin 350s but i would like to switch to a single canister to minimize clutter in the tank. i like the pro3s gph but the pro2 has the built in heater but its only 160w, will this heat my tank? house is usually 70ish. both these filters are expensive so i want to know their worth it. tank will be heavily stocked. please no sugg for a sump as i have babies and crazy cats that like to get into everything. im already leaning towards the pro3 but even 450gph doesnt seem like a very good turnover rate for a 125.

Howdy,

I have the Pro 3 on my 220 gal, and I am highly dissatisfied with the mechanical filtration. I have maaaaaaaaaaany floaties in my tank. Might be filter enough for a 125, but I would not buy it again. You should consider the Eheim classic line (2250/2260). Water flow is different in these filters, providing optimal filtration.

I have both and they work fine for bio filtration but indeed not so for mech. I use internal filters for that and the combo is great! The classic 2260 series is superb but less easy to clean than the 2080. I would use the 2080 up to 150G even tho the box states bigger tanks. the 2128 is a nice thermo filter but not big enuff if you want a 125 fully stocked. I have had it in combo with another 2128 and some internals which was good.

I have both as well, and am satisfied with both. The pro 3 is much better IMO than the pro 2s, and does come in a thermo filter, 2180. My next filter I'm purchasing is actually the pro 3e line 2078. For mech filtration in my 150 I have a hydro 3 on both intakes, and could not be happier, with the 2080 filter.

any suggestions for an extremely good mechanical canister? i think im going to install bulkheads in the bottom of my penguin 350's for the can to pump into for bio. that way if my can craps out i can just install the intake tubes into the penguins and plug em in!

Eheim Classic does it all in one
I am quite happy with a 2211 on my 20 gal and a 2217 on a 75 gal as only means of filtration.

WyldFya,

Could you elaborate and post a link to the hydro 3?

Thanks,
