No sir, no nitrates or ammonia , I’m on a private well. It’s your typical Midwest water with a high PH of 8.4 and hardness of 200ppm. This 240g tank has a 40g sump is pretty fish heavy as there is 10 Oscura Heterospila, 12 Amatitlania nanolutea(fry all over), 9 Panamius panamensis, nearly 80-90 lemon tetra, and a couple bristle nose plecos.HUKIT , does your source water contain significant nitrates? I'm astonished that your nitrates go as high as they do with your water change regimen. What size is that tank?
I have four 240’s and I admit this is entirely due to overstocking my tanks, which is why I’m always on the hunt for anything to help with nitrates that don’t include manual removal. They are all stay around 10-15ppm with 50% water changes in winter and 60-70% the summer every 3-4 days which I have become a slave to.
In addition to the display tanks there is also a large fish room in my lower level which consists of a 150g, one 90g, twenty 40B’s, ten 33g longs, six 20g longs. I’ve broken down nearly all the tanks this month. It was due to a combination of lack of time, lack of desire, and the cost to run everything, especially the fact that I want to fire bomb Comed when I get the electric bill each month, Lol. So the display tanks all have some new inhabitants that I haven’t been able to find homes yet, which is adding to the problem.
The comment about hating the Heterospila is due to their ridiculously slow growth rate.
