Wet and dry and over head filter trays are terrible noisy and I wouldn’t bother with em,

That's odd, my my wet/dry filters are just as quiet as my canisters.

Overheads will sound like rain though.

Hagen is the manufacturer of fluval which manufactures the fx5. also wet drys suck for mech filtration and are good for bio. i rekon for that 7 foot tank chuck on 2 fbf's and an fx5

I agree about the wet/dry, but my over head filter was quiet as my eheim 2078.

eheim wet and dry cannisters are a cannister with what looks like a trunk attached. This structure implements the dry part of the wet and dry is the source of the extra noise. Stil quiter than another implementaion of wet and dry perhaps but considerably noisier than the equivalent non wet and dry eheim.

Overheads do indeed sound like rain and I find it rather soothing, most of the time, but I find it a distraction to have such a thing running in a lounge.

I would agree with this as a general statment, but it is mainly because of the overflow design. With most the water is skimmed from the surface were there is little debree. With a few modifications the water can be delivered to the filter from an area with a higher level of debree.

Best bet though use the w/d for bio and another filter, such as fx5 or ac110 for mechanical.

I've currently ditched all my canisters for my Wet/Dry. So far this year I've owned Magnum 350, Eheim 2229 Wet/ Dry, Eheim 2078 Pro 3E, Eheim 2262, 2x Fluval FX5. Now I use a CPR SYS CR 3000 as my filter. I have minut debri' floating or on my sand as I use to fans to move the water in my tank to keep it clean, I also use multiple filter pads of varing degree to keep from having anything get through. My Wet/ Dry is as quiet as my filters were with a bit of tuning.

Just for clarification are you saying you've ditched everything except the 2229 wet/dry canister which is as quite as your other non wet/dry canisters after tuning?

If so, what "tuning" did you perform on the 2229 to make it quieter ?

I got rid of the 2229 also, Now I just run the CPR CR 3000 wet/dry by itself. There are pics in my post in the p-bass forum.

Thanks for sharing the information pal. Will look out for tetratec.
