Eheim 2217 online can be had for $100. They are much cheaper than most of the filters you listed.

Oh, Ive just been looking at kensfish because its about 10 mins from my house, there usaully one of the cheapest and Ive never ordered online. I will have to look around, thanks.

2217 for $120. That's what I payed almost 3 years ago so you can't beat that. It's the best canister I have and it runs nearly silent with little maintenance.
You will probably be saying the same thing in 10 years.

2217 all the way especially if you want it for bio it comes with a ton check ebay there are a bunch of used ones on there.

As for ease of use the xp3 might be friendlier but considering the 2217 can go a long time without cleaning I wouldnt worry about it

Next year one of my eheims will be celebrating it's 20th birthday after running nearly non stop for two decades. What can I say except holy #$%! I don't think that it's had more than maybe a months total downtime since I bought it in 1989.

Happy birthday to your filter. I don't have any running that are that old, but had a 2217 that was 17 years old. I have swapped out for newer models.

I swear it's not. Crazier than that, it's still as quiet as the day I bought it and I'm still using the original seal ring that came with it. No leakage to this day. Only the hoses have been replaced.

Anyone have any exp with Eheims wet dry 2227? I can get one for $140 new. Are they really good biological filters?
Thanks again
