Electric Bill

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dont remeber what my kwh/hour is but tanks are not what is going to run up your bill. My tank is the last of my concern on my electric bill. I do things such as keep my ac at one setting and dont touch it (I keep mine at 77-78sh). You can also turn your AC off for one hour every day when you are not home.(you can set it on a timer). I use energy effienct bulbs (still swapping out now, but my mom did at her house and she said it made a big difference). We dont use lights or turn things on if we are not going to use it, we turn it on when we use it and off when we are done. During the day we hardly have anything other then the tank on unless we are on the computer or cooking. You can tint you windows and that will help also. There is all kinds of things you can do. Try some of those if you think you bill is to high. Most electric places in FL will come out and do a free home energy saving inspection (idk about other states, but you can ask). I had 5 tanks running at one point in time and it really didnt make the difference on the bill.

My electric typically runs from 100-250 depending on the time of year with summers here in houston being the worse. I have 6 decent sized tanks set up and really don't think about them much in terms of usage, I worry much more about my ac unit.

most of the time its how insulated your home is, heat/cold going out around windows and doors or not enough decent insulation in the attic.

how much are you paying per kilowatt hour?

its easy to compute exactly how much your tanks are costing you in terms of electricity. it is usually every little, most of your bill is from other things running, not your tanks..

I agree, I've actually had a bill as low as $70 with 20 tanks running before

500-600 gallons worth of tank.. $117 a month electric.. 3 people living here.. 2 celing fans are always on.. 1 tv is on from 5pm-8am every friggin day..
gas bill has not been over $20 since we lived here (2.5 years)..

in the summer the ac is on a lot but the heaters almost never turn on.. in the winter we almost never run the heat but the heaters are on a lot.. i think every window in the house is still cracked open a bit its been in the 30s at night..

3 people, 550g of water, $140 every month

I already calculated mine. Without having fish tanks, it is about $100-$125 less each month on the electricity and in the water bill. It is a lot cheaper in the summer because the heaters don't turn on that much. I have three tanks running.

My houses kicks my butt on the heating cooling. Built in 1950 it has Zero insulation. I pay 11c per killawatt during the summer and like 8c during the winter.

My electricity is crazy high in my area. I have about 800 gallons at the moment. One is a 125 reef with T-5 lighting. The past few months my electric has been 250-270$ per month, gas 105$ and water about 35$ a month. Just me in a townhouse. I think having two LCD tv's running constantly is crushing me big time.
