Seems to be once every couple of weeks with 1 of 3 in a tank to themselves then another 2 I've separated one of them does this and nudges the other in the side.
Is it when your first turn the lights on ? Or are the lights off ?? It’s not something I ve ever seen before with them except when they are fry and haven’t gotten to juvenile age or size yet.

Ok so now that I think of it if this is occurring consistently regardless of lights were just turned on I think this suggests that what you have is more than likely a Blue Acara or a electric blue with poor or weak genetics. Let me explain as my wording isn’t the best. The Electric Blue Acara is a hybrid which is produced from female electric blue ram eggs which are fertilized by a blue acara male. From this select offspring are then chosen to reproduce to try and strengthen the look that we see in an EBA. Occasionally a blue acara is later bred to one of these offspring females again to introduce some fresh acara blood and to reduce the inbred blood. Now as I ve kept these on 2 seperate occasions this being the second time I ve never seen any black lines or spots on my EBAs.
So to clarify I just think the specimens you have may just not be the most ideal offspring from breeding process. Could you post a few pics of yours in this thread ?

LOL well I can't verify the genetic background of my fish but they are going to be used as a little breeding project all the same so we will see what my weak ass genetics can fruit over time.
I've separated a pair already but they are actually my 2 smallest, the others I am sure I have one male with females but I am not sure. They are only about 3 or 4 months old and ive had them since they were fry

This is what I thought you were speaking about the black dot and vertical bars that blue acaras have. So I see nothing wrong with them. When you said black lines I thought of something much different. And like I said when I said weak I just meant in terms of the resulting in the electric blue mutation that comes out of then breeding on the acara body didn’t mean to offend you just didn’t know a better way to say it. Weak only in displaying it. But your EBA look like mine. There is one that looks slightly deformed as this hybrid is known to come with a lot of that. The one in the 2nd to last photo- how long has it been like that and does it look balloony or is that just the photo. I have a red jewel that looks like that and has never grown past 2.5-3inches. And I be had him for a handful of years the kids have named him baby balloon.

This next set is one of my females she too has the line.
If it’s the line I think you mean it’s the lateral one and that’s basically a system of sense organs that help them detect movement especially when they sleep etc.
