Electric blue cichlid compatability?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The 29 is going to be for about a year then I'll get a 55 once I move out ( I'm 20 years old just so you guys don't think I'm some creep). So I will be sure to get more cave rocks or something of the sort. I honestly didn't think the convict would be a snack :(

If you have regular rocks around where you live, you can use them and stack them up into caves. Just boil them, and wash em really good.

Should not mix fish from different lakes we as fish hobbyist must keep them as close to home as possible to allow them to thrive and possibly breed.

I agree to the extent that I am not trying to breed them simply wondering if it would be possible. If its really not a good idea then I will not do it, I just really like the blue and don't think my Dempsey would kill it like he did the convict.

The likely hood of him killing the Electric Blue is very very minimum. If your not trying to breed and just doing it for looks then it will probably work out.

I kept africans with sa ca cichlids and it worked. Def add both the same time when you get the new tank. If anything the jd will be getting nipped.

I think the convict would of worked if you had a bigger tank, more room to hide. 10g is what a toilet bowl holds :) But you have to start somewhere gl

It will work. Especially if you are going to get a bigger tank later. 29 is too small for a Jack Dempsey as they grow. But 55 should be alright. You have some time until he is the size that would require the 55 but just get it as soon as possible. If a fish stays in a tank that is too small for too long, it will permanently stunt its growth.

As for mixing Africans and South Americans, some people get all huffy about it, and I guess i can understand why, the thing we all really need to understand is that we are all in the fish hobby for different reasons. Some people like to breed and create as natural of a habitat as possible (which is awesome), and some people just like to have a lot of bad ass fish to look at (which is also awesome). As long as you keep fish healthy and happy (which can most definitely be done while mixing African and South American), then who cares what you do. We have fish to enjoy them! So enjoy them!

And yes, your JD and EB will be fine if you follow the suggestions already given, introduce them to the new tank at the same time, give them places to hide and objects to use to establish their own territory. They're gonna be great!
