Hmm, I think I will go with some Electric Blue Africans then. So, the males should be more colorful? And I should try to stay away from mixing males and females in one tank?
If you get an electric blue is a female, she will remain a dull grey. If it is indeed a male, their color is a reflection of how content they are and/or dominance.
it is very hard in the beginning to see which are males and females.. unless you buy older ones ..so what you do is buy some .. and then separate the females out later... hopefully you will choose more males since they also seem to grow faster and bigger..and if you look closely at them you may catch a glimpse of the blue coming in..you should check out the african rift forum here on mfk.. lots of pictures and info on all african cichlids..

you actually can do a nice mixed tank and breed.. but this tank would need hiding places etc.. and it does not seem like you want to be getting into the breeding..but instead just want a nice african peaceful tank with lots of blue... so yes that is what you would look for..

if you try to do all males of the same species of african cichlid, chances are youll end up with one or only one will achieve full colors and the other will stay colored down.

That was a nice link, thanks for sharing. I will keep it bookmarked.

I'll just go to my LFS and pick out the ones that look healthy and bring them home with me. I can separate them if I have to.

Also, I wouldn't mind them breeding, I have plenty of tanks and such.

I'm definitely gonna go with the Africans though, how many juveniles could be housed in a 55 gallon? I can get as much filtration as they need. Im also very dedicated when it comes to water changes and such.
