individual exceptions aside, their reputation is to be less aggressive . . . based on my own experience, my EBJD is absolutely timid . . .

They definitely as a rule are not as aggressive as the regular Dempsey's. They can be, but they're not as strong. As soon as the regular Dempsey's know this, they chase them relentlessly. I keep my male ebjd separated from my blue gene male for that very reason.

Just make sure you keep your tank clean, good filtration and if you give them tank mates, that they're smaller less aggressive fish. If you get them around 2-3"s you can actually pull off keeping them with community fish. If you were intending to breed one, you'll need to let a small one grow for atleast a year, as these are some slow growing fish and get a female that is atleast 2"s smaller. This is also something the OP can use too.
