This is from the news letter i git every month from somthingfishy
Electric Blue Jack Dempsies (EBJD) are on of my all time favorite fish. In my opinion, they are the most vividly and brightly colored freshwater fish. They make great community fish and unlike regular Jack Dempsies, they are not very aggressive. I keep them with my discus and show tanks.
EBJD are not hybrids. They were developed using selective breeding techniques. Breeding of EBJD is extremely complicated and as many times as it has been explained to me, I still do not seem to fully grasp it. You cannot just take a pair and breed them. You have to start out with regular Jack Dempsies that have a particular recessive gene. You then have to cross the babies again with the adults that have the recessive gene. It takes three generations to get them. It is actually much more complicated than that, but I tried to give the simple explanation.
All EBJD used to come from a particular breeder in Argentina. That breeder has now moved to Central Florida and started up his breeding operations. http://www.somethingsphishy.com/
