Electric Blue Jack Dempsey Growth Rate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I got mine on nov 09,2009 he was 3" and now he is 6" and he is growing at the same pace as a regular male Dempsey.... :D

It depends on the fish. Some can grow quickly while others very slow. There are even different rates of growth in siblings from the same spawn.

Exactly, EBJD's are definitely the weaker of the Dempsey's. But, some do come out just as good genetically as their regular siblings. But most of that depends on how inbred they are.

Most proper breeders work very hard to diversify the genetics in their breeding projects. The key has been to work with unrelated ebjds and outcrosing with quality standard dempsey, using only quality fish as breeders. Females are usually more slow growing.

I got mine over a year ago at 1.5", he is just over 6" now. mine was very slow growing. I fed 3 times a day a mixture of hikari cichlid gold and carnivore pellets, bloodworms, brine shrimp, beefheart, market shrimp and scallops.

Hey guys! This is my first time posting... So here I go.. I just bought a ebjd about one inch long now an he's just swimming around my 220g tank now. I was wondering if anyone one has some avice for me? He's with my other 25 cichlids (3f x-mas fulus) (3m x-mas fulus) (2 yellow belly alberts) (eb coltbalt) (vustus) an a few other guys

220g
55g
20g tanks

If you buy them under a inch, then it will feel like it would take longer, I have had mine since last year of spring break and he has grown close to 4 inches now.Unless you can find one that is grown 3 inches already, then it wont be as bad.
In a 10 gallon tank reaching the 1 inch mark
