Electric Blue Jaguar Cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
does not look like any of the jaguar physical traits to me. do not waste your money on that one. just my humble opinion.

if no one told me it was a jag i would have thought it to just be a ebjd. he has strong jd traits IMO. but i cant say its not jag cuz i didnt see the parents and im not gonna judge ha

That fish is no Jag, it is just a Vieja hybrid.

If it gets into the hobby, and others breed it - it dilutes the pure jags out there. Amazing looking fish, but a hybrid that I honestly hope is sterile.

How convenient that this is the last one - very typical that the price would be so high for "the last remaining one".

thats what has happened to trimacs.

Just like Albinism and Leucism which are both very well explored and thoroughly understood traits… The ‘Blue’ quality of Electric Blue Jack Dempseys follows Mendelian Genetics…

Rarely does / would Mendelian Genetics pass between species unless these species are extremely close relative species…

As described by the ‘breeder’, One parent was a Blue Dempsey and the other was a Jag. For this combination to produce Blue offspring (via rules of Medelian Genetics) the Jag would have to be heterogeneous for Blue coloration… or a “blue gene jag”…

So either this ‘breeder’ discovered the first “blue gene Jag” known to man and let it be killed… or proved Mendelian Genetics false… or has discovered a cosmic loophole in the genetic process… or is suggesting inaccurate details as to the production of this fish…

I don’t know the guy so I’m not willing to suggest he is being dishonest… but based on what I’ve learned about the genetics of color mutations by reading many articles on Mendelian genetics, which is a widely understood, explored and documented way that genetic coding is passed… I don’t believe his story is true…

looks nice but if you are going to breed it by yourself, i'd rather go buy one b/c you will probably risk over than 250 and end up with a single jaguar.

Parent was a blue gene jack, not a EBJD. Just a plain old jag/jack hybrid.
