i just always wanted them so thats why i bought 4 cuz i herd they are hard to get and i have to go a hour or 2 out of town to get them.. i ordered some off aquscapeonline.com but that was 50 bucks a piece and they were less than a inch..

yeah my lfs sells them for 50 also but they're stunning

You can't breed blue with blue can you?

I love these guys to death and have a bunch of experience keeping them... but my lil fingers will fall off if I type it out every time someone gets a new one...

Scroll down and you'll find several threads with tons of information from myself and several others with ample experinece. Lot's of pics too ;)

PS - $30 from a local shop is a great price... heck that's not much more than you'll find them selling for on the internet before shipping

Cute.
I have one but hes a bigger guy.
I havent had any issues hes pretty hearty from what ive heard theyre supposed to be like.
But what ive gathered you have to pay extra special attention when theyre babies. Keep water perfect etc etc. Deff need a biger tank. Andi wouldnt keep them with any aggressive fish. I can only speak from my experience but i tried mine with my JDs and that was a bad idea. He didnt defend himself at all.

What the beaky ones looks like? I dont know if mine's beaky or not, but doesnt matter as Im not going breed EBJD.

The beak nose is when the forehead slopes down somewhat normal... then right between the eyes it juts back out... extreme cases make the nose look like a parrots beak...

I cull my beak nosed ones as I am breeding them and I do not want to carry this trait into my lines. Which means I don't have any pics of beak nosed fish and I don't feel comfortable posting pics of someone else's fish to display an undesirable trait.

But in the end, as long as you like your fish, it's poerfect for a pet fish...

As for breeding them, there are longer explainations in some of the other recent Blue Dempsey threads but the short and simple is Blue x Blue = weak/deformed fry... Blue x Regular = 'Blue Gene' which look normal but have the recessive Blue Gene. The Blue Gene Dempseys are what you use to produce baby Blues with (mating with Blues or other Blue genes).

When I call the beak nose look "undesirable" I am simply sharing that as a common feeling amongst Blue Dempsey lovers. But it is opinion based only and everyone's opinions differ...

If I ever seen those here for $30 I would buy a few, the cheepest I seen one anywhere around houston was $55 and he was only 1" long.
