One of my LFS has got in an electric catfish which i think is a dwarf at £8 and 3". They say ti gets up to about 10 inch. Would i be able to keep one of these ina a 40x20x16 for life or a decent lenth of time? And with some cichlids or could the shock kill them? Cheers!
yeh apparently they can grow to like 2-3 feet in the wild cause i saw sum of them on national geographic. but the good news is that they grow very slowly which means they can be in ure tank for 2-3 years MAX depending on how they grow and watnot...i think wen they r babies cichlids shud be able to survive but over time watch out! rnt they able to take down a horse??? i duno i read they r dangerous :s

It will most likely kill the cichlids sooner or later unless the tank has a alot of vertical height and alot of slate/rock for the E cat to hide out in 95% of the time. I got about 1" of growth or less a month out of my E cat feeding nightcrawlers and blood worms and the occasional feeder. If you could get a picture of the Ecat they have for sale I might be able to tell you with more certainty if its a dwarf or normal. It should be fine in that size tank either way for a while though ~Trent
