So this guy comes into the LFS where I work and says he has an electric catfish in his 55g.
It just apparently shocked and killed his Jack Dempseys.
He wants to know what fish he can get that will get along in that tank.
I tell him " probably none...some fish have to be kept alone".
He didn't like that answer , but he didnt get any fish either.
Anybody have any thoughts on this?
Can you keep other fish with an electric catfish? (I have no idea what the species name is).
Is a 55G tank big enough for an EC even alone?

LOL... that's what I thought....:)

i kept a 4 inch e cat with my africans.........................till he dissapeared.............without a trace.................and i just tore my tank down.............he was'nt hiding actually vanished!!!!...........probably eaten:(

they're not to be trusted:)

Apparently there is supposed to be some fish species which is immune to the shock and can live relatively peacefully with them, but I can't remember which species that is. They get very large in the wild. I remember reading up to 75 lbs., but I have never seen one in an aquarium over 14".

You can't keep any other fish unless intended as a meal for the electric catfish. It uses its electrical charges to stun its prey.;)
