Hi everybody,
Today I purchased a electric catfish, and once I added him in there, everything he came across ran away from him and all the fish spazzed out of control. Does the catfish shock everything it touches? or do they control it whenever its necessary?

Hey what's goin on man. e cats generally don't get along very well in a community, they'll zap anything they feel is ether food or a threat, and while it's hypothetically possible to get one to live with other fish for a while it's not very likely. It will also eventually get pretty big, 18-24 inches is certain and he could possibly get to three feet, at that point hell eat pretty much anything and everything. you can try and keep him in with whatever fish you have, but your best bet would be housing him alone or finding someone to take him off your hands.

its most likely socking them they do this when scared and hungry most fish can't handle electricity so i'd remove some fish

haha i just set up a tank just for him , a 60 gallon for now, couldnt risk him harming anything else, i saw him bit my asian aro :(

We have a an electric catfish. He is now in our old lungfish tank ( he was put down by the vet as he had heart disease.....very rare apparently and the vet was going to right an article on it.

We like to keep these big boys on their own as they can be quite grumpy and they need their space and first dibs on the grub.

Thats awesome, i certainly wouldn't risk an E cat with an asian arowana, my old e cat killed a few fish including Dovi.

My fella had a shock from this one when he first bought it. Dropped the poor guy on the doormat carrying it in the house in a towel. I was laughing though and the cat fish didn't seem too fussed. Ours is such a character and would totally recommend one if you have the space for one on his own.
