my fry never made it before well i take that back one did but died shortly after.. i don't know what happened to them or why they could keep young..

They are on the delicate side ..did you feed them an eye dropper amount of frozen baby brine...the female could have been too young herself to spit at full term..if they spit them too soon they are premature.. just try again..

yeah i did all that mabey it was a bad batch i don't know

probably spit them too early.. the female should be mature and in good health.. always fatten them up so they make good babies ..:)

if anyone has some fry that they don't need, i am willing to pay for shipping and take them off your hands. (i only say this, because some people have too many fry to keep, so i am just offering)

If you do decide to strip or move the female to a spawning tank, wait until the 2nd or 3rd time she holds. You want to let the female have at least one undisturbed hold before you start messing with her. That was advice I got from a commercial breeder and it has worked well for me.
With labs its less important to keep one male to 3 or more females than other mbuna but its still good advice. And more than one male can coexist in a tank without trouble, something that often is impossible with mbuna.3 males and 6-9 females for a colony works well cause the males will spend energy battling each other for dominance, which gives the females time to rest.

last night i heard gravel moving around so i turned on the light to my aquarium and my 2 socolofi were backing into each other so that their anal fins were touching (this was taking place in a little hole in the gravel that they seemed to have dug) but when when they noticed the light was on their scattered, but later that night i heard the same noise, but this time instead of turning on the light i just left them alone. is this normal behavior for a male/female pair?
