I need help finding a heater that would be efficent with electricity that is 100 watts. what would be the top five efficent 100 watt heaters that are easilly available in lfs.
thanks

I don't think there would be a measurable difference between different 100W heaters. Efficiency would lie in insulating the tank.

coool that is exactly one of the two models the lfs around here sales.

so what would be the best way to insulate a tank?

holy crap, i just had deja vu reading this thread... effing wierd.

I personally use Jagers for the price/performance My 100w Jager at the 4 setting keeps my 60 gal at 78F. I hear the Fluval e heaters are pretty nice maybe you should try those

with a top, and insulation on the sides and back.
you could probably use that soy based stuff, that you spay on.

it would be best to insulate the front and top too,(leave a little hole to do water changes and feed the fish.)

of course you may notice some decreased visual quality with this method. ;)

I just received my new Fluval E - 300 from ebay, today. I've installed it and it's a great piece of equiptment. It's actually the best heater I've ever had. It's a true SMART heater. No other heater manufacturer has a heating device that comes close to matching Fluval's SMART technology. It's a bit costly ($68 on ebay, including shipping).

Pros:
1)Digital display, that remains lit so you can always see the tank temp day or night.
2)Easy to adjust temp, since its digital.
3)Displays current temp at all times.
4)If the water temp drops below your settings, the screen will turn blue, if drops too far, it will flash blue. Same with the water temp getting too warm screen turns red, or flashes red
5)If their is not enough water flow near the heater, it will dispay "LF" meaning low flow.
6)Heater will cut off the power to the heating element if there is a malfunction or problem, but display a fashing error code.
7)Comes with a heater guard installed.
8)Mounting brackets allow for it to be install on the tank wall in a couple of ways.

I think this is the direction of all heaters to come . . .
