How big of a place is this? And how much is your bill? I have a 4 level split, with central air, that is set at 72 degrees. I have 11 tanks running. This has been a very hot summer to say the least. My bill averages $220 in the summer, and around $130 the rest of the year when the AC is not on 24/7. It's me, my wife, and my daughter living here. We have 2 refrigerators, and a dehumidifier running in the lowest basement because of all the water from tanks down there. I am really curious as to how much your bill is, and how big of place you have. Since you are using widow A/C, the worst kind, I'm sure this is why your having a shock from your recent bill. Although the monthly electric for aquariums isn't free by any means, from what you say you have, there is no way it should be costing you more than $15 or $20 a month to run them.

so I live in a second floor apartment. It is about 815 square feet. I run the two ACs bc of the heat wave and the pets. The only other big appliances I have are the fridge, a dish washer (which doesn't get used often), and an oven. My bill this month was $145. This is the first full month I have lived here and had all my tanks running. The previous month was $40. All the tanks where moved in last month exept for the 90g. My buddy was doing work on the place and had his power equipment, but i don't know how much they ran the AC. When I moved in I thought I had the AC on for the last two weeks of June.

Hi guys I have had roommates for years and finally bought my own place and moved out on my own. I have all my tanks with me, that I have had pretty much at all the other times. This is my first full month in my place and my electric bill is almost equal to the total bill when I had three other roommates, in a four bedroom house with my tanks. Could anyone offer guidance to figure out if it is my tanks running up the bill or running two ACs? I pretty much have to run my ACs24/7, which are both set for 80, due to the heat wave. I have a dog and a cat.
The ACs are two sharp energy star 8.000 BTU
the tanks:
90g: with T5HO running two 48 inch bulbs running eight hours, a co2 tank with solenoid, a rena xp3 and rena xp2, and two 200 watt heaters (which I can't imagine have turned on this summer)
26g: AC 70, Rena xp1, t8 single 24 inch bulb (8 hours), heater
50g: AC 70, small power head, four 48 inch T8 bulbs (running 8 hours)
75g: Rena xp2, AC 110, heater, 48 inch dual T5NO (running 8 hours)
125: fx5, 2 AC 110, two heaters, T5NO dual 48 inch buls (run 8 hours)
all lights are run for 8 hours a day
Reason I stopped listing heater wattages is bc I am pretty sure they aren't turning on. Due to ambient temps the tanks are all warmer then heater settings.

Any advice would be appreciated. I love my tanks, but right now I am stretched thin btw all the various bills. Would hate to have to reduce the number of tanks I have.
I am hoping it is just the ACs and the heat wave. Thanks for the input.

If you list the wattage of your light fixtures (you mention running T5s and whatnot but not how many T5s bulbs) and what your utility company is charging you per KWHr (it should say somewhere on your bill) I will do the math and tell you exactly what your tanks are costing you. If your house is at 80F, I'm sure your heaters aren't coming on very much if at all.

I moved into my own place not too long ago and utility costs shocked me too. I'm averaging about 800KWHRs per month which comes out to around $200 per month.
