electricity has no effect on fish???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Don't forget that water increase's the 'shocking' potential of electricity by 4 x. Crazy stuff. Keep your hand in the tank long enough and you might fry your fish...lol....

i thought i have read people saying that a heater malfunctioned and it did hurt the fish. am i wrong? if not, y does it sometimes hurt the fish?

generally when they talk about a heater malfunctioning they mean the thermostat, which in course sends the water to 40 odd degrees and yeh..

had this in mind too before...I can't remember the tv show way in the 80's the show sombody holding to wires with 2 hands inside an aquarium with water then he lighted a light bulb inside the aquarium but did not get electricuted???

Turn the lights out for that tank and see if they glow or not.

glad to know i dont have anything to worry about. id hate to lose my rescued 5 yr old pacu. guy/gal had a bad enuff life living in an unheated 30g the first 3+years.

now.....what can i do to ensure they dont eat the cords again??? i dont have a sump, so thats out

electrical signals always tends direct itself through the earth's core...thats why thunders are always downwards coz they want the (negative) ground...In your instance you're like the missing link between electricity from your tank and the earth's ground...you are the bridge
you mean lightning, right?

not a very pleasant bridge to be might i add.

you can electrocute your fish if one of the wires in the tank is also grounded... current would run from the broken heater through the water to the grounded wire.

If you've fixed the problem and everyone looks fine, don't worry about it. If they were electrocuted you'd know it!
