Out of interest, are most of these shocks happening because of the way US plugs/sockets are designed? Last time I was in America, I was disturbed by the amount of stuff in hotel rooms that didn't have earth wires at all - just those normal two-pin dealies you guys have.

I was going to ask if trip switches are a good idea for tanks, but the last trip I had kept tripping for no reason, and I can't think of anything worse than waking up to a tank where the heater and filter have been tripped eight hours previously.

Maybe the shocks are worth it.

The 2 pin dealies have double insulated cases, which means that no current can be measured off of the case of the equipment even if there is a dead short.

If you are talking about using a circuit breaker as a trip switch it is a good idea, and if they trip often there is either an electrical problem or the load is more than the breaker can handle (in amps).

ive had 2 bad experiences 1 when i was younger i was draining my 220gal holding a sump pump in the tank the hose shot off spraying me and the electrical outlet it was plugged into, my friend had to kick me off the pump
and 2 a 3' electric eell knocked me on my ass :grinno:
