Elephant trunk snake info

That's what I was thinking. It'd be in a 40g at least, more likely a 55 or 60 though. I figured I would go for a larger filter, not smaller, since it's going to need as much cleaning power as it can get?

tea for tannins?! you want tannins in the water not something to drink, use some driftwood and that will make your tank nice and dark on its own, and could be arranged to make good hiding spots and places for it to anchor itself

I think you would rater have a smaller one to keep the water current to become to turbulent and disturb your snake

Sarah88 - When tea leaves are put in water they release tannins, it's what gives the tea a slightly bitter taste. As long as it's decaf it'll work perfectly. And yes, I was already planning on providing driftwood for hiding places, although I don't believe this particular species of snake "anchors" itself - I think you're thinking about the Tentacled snake.

You could also call around to a few local reptile stores. I highly doubt any of them will have one in-store, but one or two might be willing to order them in if they have a guaranteed sale.

Coura - That would make sense. I guess if I have a smaller filter but clean it (the filter) often, it should be ok.

lol oh ok you mean like the natural whole tea leaves yeah that should be fine lol i was thinking you were talking about those mixed fruit/herb tea bags with all the flavoring and stuff lol, but yeah i dont know anything about this species i just know when i read that page that was posted the person said something about them anchoring themselves under their hidey spot or something

No, I meant a tea bag as in the kind you would use to make the drink, but green tea that has very little other than tea leaves in it. I wouldn't put any kind of orange or berry spice in the tank. As for the anchoring thing, they like "contact protection" - they hide under the roots of trees and coil themselves between them for protection from larger predators that can't fit between the roots of the trees, so in their hiding spot they need things that they can coil their bodies around that provides this same sense of security. All I have to do is find the right piece of driftwood and not only will it feel to the snake like it's natural hiding place, it'll look like it too. Tentacled snakes use their prehensile tails to "anchor" themselves for their hunting, which requires them to stay perfectly still. Here's an article on them from another member here:

I think you could relatively easily do a bird/lizard/fish combo, that'd be pretty cool and unusual.

EDIT: Woops, wrong thread...
