Elk vs photographer

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I can believe it .. like I indicated it's been a long time for me with deer .. but elk for sure is less fatty and very flavorful...I like it better than beef ,,, I like bison better also... if I wasn't so poor I would eat that instead of beef

It's been years since I've had it as well and I'd like to get some more but I'm not a hunter and I don't know anyone who hunts.

That is pretty crazy, it is hard for me to imagine an elk walking up to a person. We have a lot of elk around here and before we fenced our property they would pass through our yard at night pretty often. As soon as I even cracked the door they would be off like a stampede of horses. Deer just stare at you for a minute before bouncing off. I once came upon a herd of elk while running on a farm road behind my house and it was a little weird. They all bolted and ran away, but I definitely had the feeling that they could have just run me down and trampled me if they were at all inclined to do so - they are freaking huge!

These are a couple of photos I took a while back:

Check the local specialty butcher shops ,if you have any close to you ...deer in Pa. are like rabbits some places ,as I understand, they are pretty much every where... your local butcher may be able to hook you up

This weekend I might look into a few possible places and yeah, deer are quite plentiful even in parts of the city here.

If you find some try to get backstrap and look up recipes for marinating, wrapping in bacon and grilling. Throwing a jalapeno into the mix is a nice touch as well.
