Ellectric cat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I recently purchased one after giving up on trying to find an electric eel. I do not regret my choice. They are cute and have lots of personality. They enjoy napping in a dark cave and I would recommend red night viewing lights since they are mostly active at night. They will eat massivore and any frozen food.

got my two in today. will try to get pictures up soon. Happily eating frozen blood worms. Spitting out pellets right now but will soon change that.

It looks like they either do not grow larger or, more likely, they do not survive into adulthood, perhaps in part due to incompatibility issues.

I've had mine for 3 yrs, started from 2" and she's now over 12" and lives in a 55 gal with a school of tetras and a shoal of barbs and two plecos. But, when I had put her into my larger tank, she started to harass the larger fish. I started out with two housed separately, but ended up keeping the more plump and round one which I think is a female.

I want this fish to survive to adulthood, so if she gets any bigger, will have to move her to 100 gals. A guy on Youtube had a healthy one, and then he posted a vid of it dying at about a foot long.

Is there anyone who's had one for a long time, I'd like to hear from your experiences. Thanks.

Nice!

Great vid find, thanks.

I too am highly interested in any and all of these stories of successful raising e-cats into adulthood or at least to over 1' size.

Glad you liked. Just a hunch, but I think when this catfish's growth gets stunted at 12" in a smaller tank, then they don't survive long. Their internal might organs still keep growing in their stunted bodies perhaps, and that might be why they die prematurely. Any thoughts?
