My Ellioti, they are still pretty small with the male probably no more than 4.5" at the moment. Think that I might see some spawning activity in the not too distant future.

Female:

Male:

Nice color with a lot of blue sparkles. 4.5" is not a small elioti. It's a full grown size for female, and nearly full grown for male. I don't know how you can sex them. Both look female to me because of the vibrant color. Male has duller color.

hard to see in the photos I posted, but the female (I am assuming..) has a blue/black spot on her dorsal fin and she is smaller than the male. Her dorsal is also more square, not as pointed as the male. SHe is also more 'round' than he is. I had 2 males, but lost one to a parasite after he ate a couple sick cherry barbs..

So are you saying that the picture is of two males and mislabeled?

There is no obvious difference between the two, except that the bigger fish is the male.

In that picture linked, Look just under the male's tail, there is a blue ringed black mark on the female's dorsal like my fish. Its subtle but it is there. If you click the more images link you will see even more pictures of the dorsal showing the same.
