the tank has been cycled for months now and the lights are off 90percent of the time except when feeding

if you're trying to get it use to light, you'd the light on more often then just when you want to see it eating. Regardless, an elong is an ambush predator, it'll probably never be a social butterfly

thats what i figured but i was told while ago to keep the lights off. but i guess since hes been in the tank for 3+ weeks now i can leave the light on more often. i meen he doesnt freak out or anything he will just slowly go into his corner when i walk up to the tank.

I've heard this as well and I tried it but my neon's keep being sucked into my overflow and ended up dying...But my RBP's didn't mess with them...but mine are about 5-6" long...

I hear if your P's are larger than your neon's there is a chance they will play nice, but it's up to your P's if they want to play nice....

yeah....personally, i don't turn my light on at all, the only light they get is the natural sunlight. however, when the red bellies got bigger, the light didn't bother them at all and i was able to turn it on when i wanted to view them at night without an issue. My tiny 3 inch rhom doesn't mind the light at all. He tends to notice his reflection and come out to the glass when the light comes on. I Guess you're just going to have to make a decision, force him to get use to the light or go without.

i do want to point out i'm comparing red bellies to your elong though, and so is the guy above. elongs are faster then red bellies and ambush predators that attack using surprise and speed. in other words, they'd be better built for catching tetras

well i put a few guppies in just to see what happens and he doesnt even mess with them. i put a few feeders in to just to see if he would go after them and all he does is play with them. he will mess with them then till they die. which is a good thing cause he murders pellets

this may sound stupid as hell but could i keep a fish in with my elong that twice the size as him?

Probably not and you should know that already.
