While I appreciate their enthusiasm for the result, I hope they are not resting on their laurels. While Rep. Bordallo did acknowledge that the bill needs to be amended to protect native species AND be more sensitive to the pet industry, I think this may have been said to appease the witnesses at the hearing who represented the opposition. Even if she truly meant it, the bill still lives and is now open for amendments. This may mean it will be rewritten in it's entirety, but it also still leaves open the possibility of your favorite fish being determined as "potentially invasive" and subject to a ban. The next step is to stay informed, keep close tabs on any developments and continue to oppose the bill as written and any language in the amended version that is unjustly detrimental to our hobby. Remember, the entire Channa genus was banned even though few of the species were possibly invasive in most of the states.
