EMERGENCY HELP NEEDED

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hello; That piece of glass is on the inside, correct? The picture is of the area before you siliconed around it, correct? It does not appear to be structrual to me. As a guess, I have siliconed pieces of glass to the bottom of tanks in order to hold structure in place when creating tiered levels in tanks. It could be there for some other purpose of course. It could some how be structrual.
Sounds like you have decided to try sealing that small area. Good luck. I have on rare occasions gotten away with such attempts.

Yes my friend this.is before.i siliconed.around it.... i think is has something to do with the structure because.my plastic frame is actually 2 seperate pieces... and are not even connected... keep your fingers crossed.... BIG TIMEand thank you for all your input...

it looks like a quick fix to me...

this is a 95 gallon with a "cheap fix"....its sorta what it looks like to me.

the previous owners had the tank.it leaked so they cleaned up the leaky area siliconed the crap out of it and put glass on top to hold it.

Hello; I still have no good notion about the purpose of the glass piece, but from experience know that when glass is siliconed to glass on the flat sides it can be very difficult to remove. I have a few pieces still glued to the bottom of a couple of tanks from decades ago. Please let us know how the patch turns out.

Leak is fixed!!!! I can not believe this truely worked!!!! Now... back to the conversion ... but i looked on the bottom of my tank and these pieces were not to cover previous cracks... they go completely around my tank...

Hello; Good for you on the leak. I would likely fill the tank in a safe place and let it sit for several days to a week to give time to be sure before putting fish in, but perhaps your luck will hold. Several of my partial seals have started leaking again before long and I started resealing an entire tank some years ago.

On the glass pieces. There are several in the tank siliconed the same way as the one pictured, correct? Are they all positioned like the one pictured and in roughly the center of the side they are on? If the previous assumptions are correct, my next guess is that they were used to position the side glass panels of the tank during assembly. Also if this be correct, then it seems likely the silicone bead will be thin between the bottom and side glass and this may be why it leaked at that area when the tank was moved. It may be a good preventative idea to seal around all the others as well.

Oh no worries there... we aren't adding anything yet.... we don't have all the salt equipment yet... lol and thanks everyone again... and i agree about the glass pieces
