Hey guys my friend needs some help. We're having some crazy bad weather here in Southern California and the power went out in my friends neighborhood and he has no way of heating his tank or keeping it oxygenated. His power wont be restored for a few days.

He's afraid his Silver Arowana and Datnoids wont make it through the night because his temps are dropping quick.

What would you guys do in this situation? Is there some kind of battery powered heater/air pump he can get? We've never had this bad of weather to knock our power out here.

Need some input asap!

if he has a gas stove or water heater, he can heat water that way for the tank. He can stir the tank with his handor whatever to get some circulation. Walmart sells battery powered air pumps built for boat livewells that would work.

He should also take his biomedia out and put it in the tank so it doesnt sit in the filter and kill the good bacteria.

I have a bubble wand going in the back of my tank at all times. I just purchased a AirPod Air pump w/battery back up. This unit used 4 D batteries and will automatically come on in the event of a power outage. It was apx $40 on line. You can also purchase small battery powered pumps and just add them during an outage to keep water circulation.

The heat thing is another issue - I have not found any battery heaters. The best thing would be to use a gas generator, to keep everything running.

:iagree:Had to do this with all of my tanks at my old place. It worked though.

if he cant do this and his tank is big enough water temp shouldnt be a prob in socal (where i am) just make sure to keep the temp in the house up.

oxygen use a wire wisk on the surface to get the water oxygenated.

doesnt need constant just every 20 -30 min

also take all of the lids or things off of the tank to increase air flow to help disolving.

get a power inverter for ur car and a extension cords

or a honda generator :D hehehe mines saved me a few times already

inverters are around 30 bucks for a 400 watt which should be enough to power a heater and air pump. prob even an hob or two..

my 1000 watt generator is able to keep 5-6 powerheads and 3 heaters going for the tanks...

i have a honda generator specifically for these issues, bought it in advance cause i knew, we get a lot of outages here in winter, great investment if you can afford it, it gives me soooooo much piece of mind when the weather starts going, before i had it, i would always worry, fantastic deal, look on craigslist, one of the best things ive ever bought
