my water is at 64 degrees for some reason!!! IT WAS 78 YESTERDAY! idk what to do, i bought fish today who are still in there bags laying in the aquarium, i added a extra heater, what else can i do?? they have been in the bag for 3 hours!! plz dont trash me for this, its the first time this ever happened to me, just help!

The same thing happened to me the other day. I have just been gradually increasing the temp on the tank. Turn it up a couple degrees every couple of hours as to not shock the fish.
My temp is finally back to where it should have been. Mine was caused by a faulty heater.

Most likely culprit is a faulty heater. It happens, don't freak out, just go get a different heater. You may also consider the location of your tank. Is it near a drafty door or window? Is it in a cold basement? If "yes" is the answer to any of these questions, you may just need a larger or second heater. Good luck, just remember, stay calm, you'll figure it out.

I would suggest hourly 10% warm water changes to get your temp back up to normal. But if you have no dechloranator then you could possibly drain a couple quarts of water from your tank into a large pot and heat the water on the stove. Only heat the water to a temp that you can still touch, add it back into your tank slowly. Keep an eye on your thermometer though, it is best that you only raise the temp about 1 degree every 15 minutes or so.

Good luck with this.

To avoid this situation, always keep dechlor and an extra heater. A few bucks goes a long way to protecting your investment.

pour warm water into the tank

yesterday i went and bought a 300 watt heater, so now I got 700 watts of heatage in my tank, good enough? its at 80 thank god!
How big is your tank??? I only have 600 watts of heat for my 220g, and it's in a cold basement. The water stays at 81 all the time, no problems. Unless you have a huge tank, then you can probably take out the old heater. One day you may check on your fish, and it will look like someone made fish soup out of your tank!
